Classroom Observation #2
What surprised
you?
During this observation, I was mainly surprised to learn that the teacher recorded videos on how to create two-point perspective for their students. It was an interesting way of teaching as it allowed students who weren't in class that day or who may work at a slower pace the opportunity to re-watch these videos at their own leisure. The teacher also noted that this method of teaching, for at least introducing the lesson, was more sustainable than doing multiple demonstrations repeatedly and inevitably being pulled multiple ways. Additionally, these videos were often short, thoroughly explained, and demonstrated every step of the way so that the foundations for every student could be assured. I find all of this to be fascinating because it allows for a common base to be established online where student can learn in the classroom and at home and which can be curated over years of teaching. This also makes the teacher's job a bit easier and allows them to make revisions as new ideas are brought up.

What did you
learn?
- Video making software may be a great asset in recording lessons and documenting examples
- Google Sites offers websites specifically for schools so personal information of students and teachers is less likely to get leaked
- Students at school "P" have 6 day cycles, of which 4 of the days include art
- Recording videos in advance allows teachers to deal with behavior issues and other situations while other students can continue their work and not be hampered by class distractions
- When speaking to students, use affirmative language to not decrease morale and student interest
What would you
have done differently?
Looking back, I would have liked to converse with the group of students I sat with because I could tell that they weren't really comfortable with me and that I wasn't comfortable with them. This only hampered my observations and also didn't create an enjoyable experience for the students. Along with this, I also wanted to ask more about recording lessons from the teacher and how to incorporate them into teaching new skills.
